Neighborhood Activities
Residents of Kingsley and their families enjoy four city organized and funded activities throughout the year. It’s a great way to meet your neighbors and have some fun.
Egg Hunt
The annual Kingsley Easter Egg Hunt is held on the Saturday before Easter Sunday. It’s a Kingsley tradition that is much enjoyed by all the youngsters, and now we have started partnering with Strathmoor Village to share the fun. Children gather at Kingsley Green and await the Mayors’ official start of the hunt. There are picture taking opportunities with the Easter Bunny, and most kids cart home a good supply of candy-filled eggs.
Yard Sale
Kingsley’s annual yard sale is a great opportunity to purge basements and closets of unwanted items. It’s also a great opportunity to stroll the neighborhood and meet your neighbors. You might just find a bargain on something you didn’t even know you needed! If it turns out that you really didn’t need it, what the heck, you can put it back out in next year’s yard sale. The city-wide sale is always held on the first Saturday in June. For 2021, that date is June 5th.
We also cancelled the 2020 Kingsley yard sale due to the COVID19 outbreak. But hold onto your stuff and we’ll hope to see it and you the first Saturday in June, 2021.
Picnic
Kingsley’s annual Picnic in the Park celebration is held on the second Sunday of September. We had a great turn out in 2019 between Kingsley and Strathmoor Village residents. Kids kicked soccer balls around Kingsley Green and climbed inside a decommissioned police helicopter.
Put this on your calendar to come meet and greet neighbors and share a meal provided by the cities. Bring the kids, the grandkids, a healthy appetite, and all the good weather you can muster.
Just like most gathering activities in 2020, the picnic is also cancelled. But we’ve kept the reservations with our vendors for September 12th, 2021.
Halloween Parade
The annual Halloween Parade, held on the Saturday or Sunday (depending on the weather) preceding Halloween, is another family-favorite activity, and another opportunity to share with Strathmoor Village. The parade route, which starts at Kingsley Green, is only several blocks long and is easy on the legs of the young and not so young. Police cars are at the front and rear of the group, and candy is distributed at the conclusion of the parade.
As with our other events, the date and time of the Halloween Parade will be posted on this web site. A flyer announcing the date is usually mailed in advance of the event. Due to the COVID 19 outbreak, we were unable to have this parade. But we’re looking forward to 2021!
